PMS iPad Acceptable Use of Sound, Music, Games, and Programs

Provided that all conditions are met as listed, administrators will allow students to add their own music, apps and content to their iPad.

• Students may sync their devices using their own personal iTunes accounts.

• Sound must be muted at all times unless permission is obtained from the teacher for instructional purposes.

• Within the school building, ear buds must be used unless permission is obtained from the teacher.

• Students may not jailbreak, root or in any other way tamper with the iPad’s operating system (iOS). Failure to abide by this rule can result in disciplinary action and loss of iPad privileges for a time to be determined by the principal.

• Students may not access games, music, and other apps during class time that are not intended for educational use. Teachers have the right to determine what constitutes educational use. The following is a list of acceptable games for class:

Math-

Because Math involves logic and problem solving, the Math Games list may be longer than the other departments. These games are mostly used for students to play if they have finished an assignment and other students are still working. They are not used to drive a Lesson (except in certain situations) and will be used infrequently. Students were given the chance to suggest games, and all have been tested by a teacher for math educational value.

Language Arts-

In Language Arts students will be using Notability, Notes, Pages, the Calendar, and Dropbox for regular classroom assignments.

When we are working on projects or specific assignments then students may be asked to use Edmodo, Tools4Students, Writing Prompts, Safari, Follett digital reader, Destiny Quest, PhotoCard, iBooks, PictureCollage, Doceri, ScreenChomp, iMovie, Keynote, Whiteboard, SockPuppets, and ScribblePress. Students may also be asked to access their email for links or general information. These, however, should not be opened when students have finished an assignment unless they have received permission from a teacher to work on projects.

ONLY word games are allowed when every other avenue is exhausted. Students have AR books and classroom books available at all times. Game apps should NOT be opened while other work is taking place....group or individual assignment time. (7th grade has a Friday, LA game App warm-up time....word games are appropriate then; when we are finished those apps should be closed. Again, students should not rotate back and forth between following along in a story and working on a word game or other app). Acceptable Word Games: PopWords, MissingLink, 7Words, Hooked on Words, WhirlyWord, Letris, WordSearch, Word to Word Association, Word Tree, LetterPress, Hangman, and WordsWorth.
